These portraits depict the art style that I began developing in July of 2022. I was massively influenced by singer/songwriter Kate Bush, whose music I was obsessed with at the time (still am). The fluidity of her movements and the intense expressions on her face inspired me to recreate myself as an artist, and pushed me to pursue a more dramatic style that matched that energy. I was also inspired by a graphic novel I was reading at the time; The Girl from the Sea, by Lee Knox-Ostertag. The book itself was incredible, and the illustration style was so simple, yet touched me so deeply. It helped me to realize that the way I work doesn’t have to be terribly intricate to be remarkably effective. Just a couple of colors and some messy lines.
